The sister-half and lead singer of Blondfire’s sibling duo takes five from us.
1.) What’s your favorite Beatles song and why?
I don’t know, there’s just so many. I like “Strawberry Fields Forever” a lot. That’s what pops into my head. It definitely makes me happy. It’s really dreamy and I love it.
2.) Who are three songwriters—living or dead—that you wish you could sit down and write a song with?
Tom Petty. Oooh, this is a hard one. There’s so many good ones. We’ve been listening to Tom Petty a lot in the van on this tour and he’s an awesome songwriter. Every time we listen to him, it’s so surprising how many great songs he has. Maybe Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode. Probably John Lennon. He’s a good one. You can’t go wrong with him.
3.) If you had to pick one song that you’ve written that you really think sums you up as a songwriter, what would that be?
Wow. It’s so hard to say that, because I feel like each song is a little bit of me. Like a little different facet of my personality. That’s tough. I’m gonna go with “Young Heart” from the new album, just because to me, it encapsulates some of my favorite things. I love dreamy music. I feel like these are questions that you almost have to think about for a long time before you decide on an answer that’s “Yes, that’s it.”
4.) What’s the one song that you wish you could’ve written?
I think “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode. I love the lyrics to that song and I just think it’s such a beautiful melody.
5.) Is there anything you’re listening to these days that you’re particularly digging?
I’m gonna go with what we’ve been listening to a lot, which is the new Foals album [Holy Fire]. That’s probably the newest thing that’s been on repeat for me. It’s really cool.
